LOCATION: Spanish Trail Scout Reservation is located approximately 7 miles west of DeFuniak Springs, on the south side of Hwy. 90, between L & N Railroad and I-10. Traveling on I-10 East, from Pensacola, exit on Hwy. 285, Exit 13 and turn left. Go to dead end and turn right on Hwy. 90. Go approximately 5 miles to a sign on Hwy. 90 reading "Boy Scout Camp". Turn right and follow signs into the reservation.
ACTIVITIES: Activities include camping, canoeing, fishing, hiking, picnicking and swimming. During the summer camp season, the camp offers a full range of merit badges and several optional high adventure trips.
FACILITIES: Spanish Trail Scout Reservation is open the entire year for either day events or overnight camping. There are family cabins available, which have beds, full service bathrooms, a kitchen area with a stove and a living room area with a couch. as well as canoes, rowboats, nature trails, a BMX track, and nineteen campsites. Campsites are equipped with latrines, cold water showers, picnic tables and fire circles. There are centrally located hot water showers available. There are several buildings on the reservation that can be used for meetings, banquets, and other indoor events. The camp also has two chapels for religious services or just meditation.
FEES: The family cabins are $15.00 per night for adult registered Scouters and their immediate family. The users fee for the camp is $1.00 per person for 2 nights and $2.00 per person for 3 or more nights. The only other fees are for lost or broken equipment. A request for use of the camp, along with the applicable fees must be submitted to the Scout Service center at least 7 working days in advance of the arrival date. In order to use the waterfront areas, the unit must have a valid safe swim defense card. To use the canoes/rowboats the unit must have a valid safety afloat card. The use of the rifle range requires special approval based on NRA instructors.
SITE: Spanish Trail Scout Reservation is located on Lake Alaqua, which has two different waterfronts. The reservation includes two camps, Camp Euchee and Camp Jambo, connected to each other by a road and two foot bridges, one of which is a swinging bridge. It includes a field sports area, where, during summer camp, Scouts can learn rifle, shotgun and archery. There is a full service dining hall, that can accommodate large groups.
