Bowater Hiking Trails

The Bowater trails vary from little 2 mile short hikes to 10 mile hikes that make be hiked with backpacks. These trails can take anywhere from a mere hour or two to a full day or two due to the variations in terrain which can get very rigorous. In all, the following trails provide lots of fun and beautiful scenery.

1.) Virgin Falls Pocket Wilderness
Length of trail: 8 miles
Time to complete trail: 6 - 8 hours
Description: This trail's main attraction includes the beautiful Virgin Falls which is formed by an emerging underground river.
Activities: The Caney Fork River and other nearby streams provide excellent fishing and other water activities.

2.) Laurel-Snow Pocket Wilderness
Length of trail (Laurel): 5 miles
Time to complete trail (Laurel): 3 hours
Length of Trail (Snow): 6 miles
Time to complete trail (Snow): 4 hours
Description: This trail, which contains two waterfalls, has a couple of overlooks and a few bridges which add scenery to this beautiful trail. The trail begins as one and then branches off to the two different water falls, Laurel and Snow.
Activities: The trail provides picnicking areas which might be taken advantage of after experiencing the trail and its scenery.

3.) Stinging Fork Pocket Wilderness
Length of trail: 3 miles
Time to complete: 2 hours
Description: This loop trail provides excellent scenery and moderate recreation.
Activities: The trail ends at a creek which may be fished.

4.) Twin Rocks Nature Trail
Length of trail: 2.5 miles
Time to complete: 2 hours
Description: The nature trail gives a sampling of the typical plants found in this region of the U.S. Activities: A nearby picnic area provides an excellent place lunch and leisure.

5.) Piney River Trail:
Length of trail: 10 miles
Time to complete: 6 hours
Description: This trail connects a nearby Forest Camp and the Twin Rocks Nature Trail.
Activities: The trail experiences the hiker to new views in that trail goes by various rock formations and over various bridges including a 100 foot suspension bridge.
