Chickamauga Military Trails
Chickamauga Park provides about 80 miles of historic trails which can be hiked daily at this site of a large Civil War battle. All of the trails are focused around the battlefield and contain many relics of the Civil War Era. Although overnight camping is not permitted on the trails, there is a central camping area which can be used for the duration of your stay at the park. Medals and patches can be earned for completion of the trails.
1.) Chickamauga Historical Trail (Hike No. 1)
Length of trail: 1 day
Time to complete trail: varies
Description: This initial hike gives you a descriptive background of the Civil War by way
of monuments, batteries, and other historical landmarks.
2.) The Cannon Hike
Length of trail: 14 miles
Time to complete trail: 1 day
Description: During this hike, you are introduced to the seven main kinds of cannons
located at this Civil War battle site which contains about 200 miles.
3.) The Perimeter Hike
Length of trail: 20 miles
Time to complete trail: 1 full day
Description: This trail not only provides the hiker with historical background but also
challenges the hiker's skills by being a compass trail incorporated with a nature trail.
4.) The Bragg Hike
Length of trail: 7 miles
Time to complete trail: a 1/2 day
Description: On this hike, various monuments are visited including General Bragg's battle
headquarters.
5.) The Confederate Line Trail
Length of trail: 6 miles
Time to complete trail: a 1/2 day
Description: Along this trail, the Confederate Batteries involved in the battle can be
seen along with the monuments associated with these Batteries.
6.) The Memorial Hike
Length of trail: 12 miles
Time to complete trail: 1 day
Description: This trail commemorates the deaths of the eight Brigade Commanders who died
while leading their troops during the battle of Chickamauga. The locations where each of
these officers received their fatal wounds during battle along the trail are identified.
7.) The Chickamauga Nature Trail
Length of trail: 5 miles
Time to complete trail: 1/2 day
Description: This trail provides ample knowledge of the ecosystem including the scientific
and common names for most of the trees found in the area.
