LOCATION: Tannehill Historical State Park is located 12 miles below Bessemer just off I-59.

ACTIVITIES: See historic Tannehill, the site of the ironworks during the Civil War. Pan for gold, hear bluegrass music, go horseback riding, visit the pioneer homes of the 1800s and hike seven different trails, just to name a few.

FACILITIES: There are 198 improved campsites available, as well as 50 sites available for tent campers. Three modern bathhouses are available. FEES: Contact the park for fees.

SITE: Tannehill Historical State Park is the birthplace of the Birmingham iron industry. One of Alabama's most unique state park facilities, it is less than 30 minutes away from Birmingham. Built in three main sections, the park spreads across 1,500 acres of scenic wooded hills. The countryside is laced with historic trails. Also see the John Wesley Hall Grist Mill and the Iron and Steel Museum of Alabama.
