LOCATION: DeSoto State Park is located 8 miles northeast of Fort Payne. Follow Alabama Highway 35 from Interstate 59. On top of Lookout Mountain turn on County Road 89.

ACTIVITIES: Activities at Desoto State Park include camping, picnicking, non-motorized boating, fishing, tennis, swimming, hiking, and nature programs. In May, the Rhododendron festival is held in Mentone. The CCC has a reunion in June, and a Fall Colorfest is held in October.

FACILITIES: There are 78 improved campsites with hookups available as well as primitive campsites. Picnic areas, playground, and tennis courts are available. 21 miles of hiking are available in the park's 7 trails. FEES: Call the park for fees.

SITE: In the pioneer spirit of the explorer, DeSoto Park ranges over 5,067 acres along Little River Canyon. Accented by rushing waterfalls and fragrant wildflowers, the park enhances the pioneer spirit. Along the 40 miles of roadway within the park area, you have a spectacular view of DeSoto Falls. A 22 mile scenic drive, along the edge of the deepest canyon east of the Mississippi River, provides views of Little River Falls and magnificent rock formations. Come to DeSoto, the "Home of Mother Nature."
